What some people do in a changing economy…

It is in a person’s nature to find the best deal for a product and/or service and I certainly understand this for commodity items/products which are readily available from a variety of sources.   I also suppose this type of shopping occurs widely in service industries as well.   However, some people take it to the maximum extreme and this video clip shows it well.  I am fortunate that our clients choose to hire us based on our quality of products and services and I am also blessed that I’m not selling commodity items that often go for bottom dollar on the open market.

My favorite line in this was when the male guest at the restaurant mentions the “beef” and the waiter says that he had the filet and the male guest then responds “cow”.  Unfortunately, many people still see the term “wedding video” and don’t really realize that there are “taco-wedding videos” and “filet-wedding videos”… mainly because of many other variables–that will be another post some day.

PS… we did not make this.

JC/DV Productions is making progress!!!

WOW!  What an exhillarating last couple of weeks!  On Monday March 16th, I went to Boston, MA and gave a presentation to the National Professional Videographer’s Association of New England.  I had such a great time and Joe and Denise Goldsberry of Media Concepts were great hosts and took me sight-seeing and opened their home to me during my stay there.   Time got away from us, and they even packed up the 5 posters I shipped there to send back to me!  Thanks again Joe and Denise!

At the end of the presentation (I kind of ran over in time a little) Whit Wales asked me to sit in a chair as he wanted to acknowledge me for the presentation… I was thinking something like a certificate of appreciation or something when he told me that.  BUT FIRST, he wanted to show an “Event DV Promo”.  You see, the 2008 Event DV Top 25 awards was to be announced the next day on EventDV-TV.  So, I was getting a little more curious as I saw Steve-Nathans Kelley talking about this and that for the Top25 awards…  I thought, “Nah, they’re just wanting to announce to the PVA so they can all log on the next morning to watch.  Then BAM, he went right into announcing one of the winners… IT WAS ME!  I’m still in shock over it.  So, a HUGE THANK YOU TO ALL THAT VOTED FOR ME!!!

This award is basically the “hottest and most influential in the world” and is voted by peers–other videographers and not by clients, etc.  I feel very honored to be on this list amongst some of the greatest of people I know in the industry.  Though there are MANY more people/companies that I feel should be on the list that isn’t, I’m sure they will some day.  The biggest part of this is being “influential”.  The votes I casted were for people that that inspired ME… not just if they do great movies, films or videos.  There are other awards for judging works of art, but this is kind of both.

It was great to see many new faces on this year’s list…  Again, I feel honored to be on this list with them!  If you would like to see the video announcements of the winners, visit EventDV-TV and watch Part 1, 2 and 3.  My announcement is in Part 1 at 4:24.

More good news will follow in a couple days… its a BIG suprise!

A Short Film about the Homeless

First, we did not make this!  Don Pham with Take 1 Productions produced it.  Second, I thought it has an important message to share.  The homeless situation has always been unfortunate and uncalled for in my book, and given the current state of economy, I’m afraid it will get even worse.

Do something for someone… a little goes a long way.

View the film below and read Don’s post on his blog.

2 Premier Bridal Shows - Kingsport & Knoxville Tennessee

It was great seeing so many brides enthusiastic about wedding movies at the two shows we participated in with Premier Bride! One was at Meadowview Conference Center in Kingsport, TN (Tri-Cities) and the other was at The Knoxville Convention Center in Knoxville, TN.

The Tri-Cities show was much smaller than the Knoxville show but both had a great turn out and a great response to our booth!

Here are some pics to enjoy if you missed it!

Last year’s booth:

Tri-Cities Booth:

Knoxville Booth (added some modifications within that week… can you tell?):

I want to extend a HUGE THANK YOU to Markeeta for working playing with me at both shows!  She did excellent at communicating “bride-to-bride” all of her experiences with what we did for her and her family.

It was really cool to network and meet up with many of the other vendors… I got a chance to see some faces that I haven’t seen in a couple of years and also put a face with the name/email/voice with a couple others!

I look forward to our next series of shows (probably next year)… who knows, there may be some big suprises for the next booth!

Remember brides… don’t just shop on price alone.  Find what style you like and what “fits” you!

- Jerome

PS… Brides, go to the URL that is on the card that you picked up at the booth.  There’s some important news for you!

MAC users and the WD HD Media Player

Several people has asked me how to get native HDV files from their mac to work with this unit… I still don’t know how.  HOWEVER, one guy I have been in contact with (Chris at www.proviewvideo.com ) has spent a good deal of time with WD support on this and WD seems eager to address this issue and I feel that IF you are a mac user and want to use this device and have troubles… fill out this support form to show that demand is there to fix the issues.

So hopefully, WD will get all your input, and fix this in an upcoming firnware update.
